Anthony has worked in the industry for 14 years. He has been a chef up and down California, from San Francisco to San Diego, as well as in his hometown of Los Angeles.
Anthony graduated from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, but his development truly took off while working under award-winning Asian tapas Chef, Barney Brown. An important stint cooking for Michelin-rated Chef Jean-Francois Meteigner of La Cachette Bistro followed. Anthony earned his first Chef de Cuisine job at the age of 28,
overseeing the globally recognized dining room at The Getty Center Museum. Currently, Anthony has been helming the stoves of the Whisper Lounge at LA’s iconic shopping centers, The Grove and The Americana at Brand, where he continues to develop his farm to table ideals.
Shao grew up in San Francisco where there is a heavy Chinese population and influence, and he ate traditional Chinese food cooked by his grandfather every night. But the allure of American food was very strong. Shao found himself drawn to mac and cheese, casseroles, meat loaf and spaghetti.
As a child, Shao was glued to PBS “Food network,” fascinated as Julia Child, Jacque Pepin, Graham Kerr and Martin Yan shared their techniques and enthusiasms. After high school, he enrolled in culinary school, and trained at a number of restaurants in Los Angeles before meeting Chef Anthony Jacquet, at The Restaurant at the Getty Center. Under Jacquet’s training, Shao was taught the importance of seasonality, sustainability and locally sourced food. Flavor, quality and balance were a credo. And Shao’s passion for food catapulted to a new level.
Shao came to The Whisper Restaurant and Lounge in 2008.
Jonathan brings a diverse international background and more than 12 years of culinary and hospitality management experience to The Whisper Restaurant & Lounge.
Jonathan’s great appreciation of the kitchen is intrinsic to his management style. He has spent the last six years honing his skills in Las Vegas, working for acclaimed chefs Bobby Flay, Kim Canteenwalla, Shawn McClain and Kerry Simon. He has managed restaurants in luxury hotels, The Palms, Aria at City Center, and The Wynn Las Vegas & Encore Resort.
In addition to his management experience, Jonathan also has diverse knowledge of wine and cocktail programs. He values education and believes that dining also can be a learning experience.
Jonathan holds a bachelors degree in hotel and culinary management from the Harrah Hotel School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also holds a masters degree from the Universidad Europea de Madrid in hotel management and a post-graduate certificate in hospitality management from the prestigious Les Roches School of Management in Bluche, Switzerland.

Michelle was born and raised in Los Angeles. At a young age, she found herself captivated by the hospitality industry. She began her career in a five-star hotel before becoming a server at an upscale restaurant. She quickly moved into a managerial position, where she learned the art of wowing every guest.
At The Whisper Restaurant and Lounge she works closely with the chef and the management team to ensure the experience comes through for each patron. She has a vast knowledge of Californian and Italian wines and also has been known to make tasty cocktails. As the resident vegan, she challenges the chef to invent exciting vegetarian and vegan dishes that any type of eater would enjoy. In her free time, you can find her outside enjoying the great California weather with her son.
Mike made his way west some 10 years ago, from the dark haunts of New York City and Washington, DC. Drawn by its warmth and beauty, he has made California his adopted home. Mike has spent his time happily exploring a never-ending supply of restaurants and bars, searching for that next great cocktail, and finding plenty of inspiration to keep creating.

Special Events Manager
Dana is a University of Nevada, Reno, graduate specializing in psychology and business. She joins us from Sacramento, adding a friendly face to our customer service team. As catering and events manager, Dana serves as a bridge between customer and business, and she works hard to bring every party vision to life. In addition to orchestrating large parties and events, Dana also focuses on the restaurant floor, socializing with customers and helping to create an elegant, gracious ambiance. When not at work, Dana enjoys trying new places to eat, including hidden gems and indulgent sweet shops.
